We are longtime members of the Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC) who are concerned about bringing the institutional church into the 21st century. We acknowledge that the current practices within the PCC have been inadequate in moving local congregations ahead. We suspect that the same concerns may afflict many other Christian denominations. We believe that the Reformed and Presbyterian theology, beliefs and practices have much to contribute to the shaping of the future. We argue that there is a chasm between our faith, hope and love confessed in our subordinate standards and our daily living and that this disconnect (if not attended to immediately) will result in our demise.
Here, we propose that this concern be addressed by vigorously debating and attaining deeper understandings in the areas of leadership, growth and education. We invite everyone especially Presbyterians from everywhere to discuss and contribute and help us to discern ways to be Christians in this new century.
